Tandem Fryslân has been developed around Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018 (LF2018), European Capital of Culture. With iepen mienskip (open community) as a central theme, LF2018 focuses on cultural interventions that can encourage new approaches to the challenges faced by this rural region of the Netherlands. Tandem Fryslân facilitated the exchange of similar experiences across wider Europe. The programme stimulated the search for innovative solutions, by building long-term collaborations between cultural actors working in Fryslân and other regions in wider Europe.

The social – cultural center “It Koartling” in Buitenpost – Netherlands  and Omma Studio, Heraklion, Greece met in this background, during the Tandem Fryslân Partner Forum in November 2017 which took place on the island of Terschelling.

"Adeste/Kom erbij" festival was born, a social-cultural festival upon emotional or social isolation and has taken place in both countries, in Netherlands, Buitenpost, 21 & 22 of September 2018 and in Greece, Heraklion, 3 & 4 of November 2018.

Adeste is a Cretan term for Come on! Loosely translated it can mean in Dutch: Kom Erbij.  It is an invitation to join in.

Irene and Hink (Greek and Dutch project managers of the Festival) say: "Our shared dream was to provide a platform for both our communities to meet, exchanges ideas, develop with each other and debate. By organising a festival - focusing on residents with special needs, elderly or lonely people and people from vulnerable backgrounds - we wanted to build bridges between different cultures and make people feel included".
